Welcome to our virtual Field Trip Day! Today 1H and 1P will be heading to the Cape May Zoo to learn about different animals and their habitats. Our Animal Ambassador for this trip will be, an almost two year old giraffe, named Bo!
Here are some giraffe terms you will need to know before your visit to the zoo.
Ossciones - are horn or antler like structures protruding from a giraffes head. They are different from antlers and horns because ossciones are made of bone. The word ossicone actually mean "boney cone".
Prehensile - capable of grasping.
Cognitive Enrichment - Cognitive enrichment aims to focus on the specific cognitive skills or problem solving skills known for a species/individual, and how best to stimulate the expression of these skills
Cape May Zoo- Giraffes
After learning about giraffes try to do some yoga poses (and bend like a giraffe). Also answer some giraffe trivia questions for us.
1. What color is a giraffe's tongue?
*Bonus why are their tongues that color?
2. What type of weather does it need to be for a giraffe go outdoors?
3. When a giraffe is being trained, what is it favorite treat?
You can write your answers on paper, draw them as pictures or send a quick video from your iPad or phone.
Next grab some craft supplies and let's make a giraffe together! Watch the video below.
Not ready to leave the zoo yet? You can click here for Virtual Zoo School and learn about more animals that call the Cape May Zoo their home.
I hope you have a great day at the zoo and I can't wait to hear all about what you learned on your trip!
Don't stop the fun now! Listen to Mrs. Preston tell us all about a new book she found. Just click the link on the title!
